Hello world!
Hi, this is the first time I'm doing a devlog on itch.io, hope I'm doing this right!
Back at the end of 2023, we were talking about how we could make a game about boxing judges, in style of a narrative job simulator. The teaser linked above was created, and we started working on the game slowly but steadily. Until the first half of 2024, we laid down the gameplay concept and general story - the concept revolves around you being one of three boxing judges who give points from their side of the ring. Just like in real life, your votes are tallied up and compared to other judges', giving a general winner of the match.
The core gameplay is this exact moment where you give your points to the fighters - as the story progresses, each choice you make will greatly influence the rest of your game - if you manage to make it to the end. Giving points to fighters who don't deserve them - or giving points opposite of the ones you were told to give - may result in you losing your job or worse.
2025 soon rolled in, and we are at the phase where we are cleaning up our visuals, adding animations (since this is a first-person view, we will need to add a lot of different hand movements and gestures) and greatly defining the storyline. In next devlogs I will show some character and background art, as well as the general progress on the game and story.
You can find our game on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3002010/Split_Decision/ It's been a while since I updated the store page so the screenshots are /very/ old, mind you.
Anyway, hope you like it and want to hear your thoughts on the gameplay, visual style and narrative games in general! Do you have any recommendations for narrative job simulators, like the ones you see in Papers, please?
Split Decision
Your seemingly simple boxing judge gig gets a little complicated as you are offered to fix matches for profit.
